Looking for MY perfect clear

I'm thinking that the difference in scratch resistance between the different clears might be a bit overstated, it's one of those ideas that takes hold but hard to prove scientifically. I know that when I have subjected fresh Universal clear to heat and humidity, it hardens up real good. Euro is just faster, like fully done curing in a week. It's my personal belief that 6 months down the road, scratch resistance should be very similar between all the SPI clears.

Dark colors and nice cars just get a lot of scrutiny, so any fine scratch or haze will be noticed instantly, but it's not the fault of the clear.

I agree...I am just being picky. The car looks great outside, the lights in my garage show sratches from me cleaning it. After I buff it again before this season, I will have to take a serious look at my cleaning techniques and products.

Ah, #7. Good stuff. Would be interesting to know how many gallons I've gone through.

Yeah, it seems to come up on here from time to time. It looks like it is time for me to try it. Do you think that is what I need to hide the fine scratches on my black car?

BTW, only do one panel at a time with it. it's not meant to be allowed to dry on the vehicle. Wipe it on, buff it off with a microfiber towel. Less is more.

Don't hide them! Spend about $100 and get a porter/cable 7424 dual action sander/buffer. For pads get a yellow CCS and orange CCS from Lake Country. I like the compound and polish from Optimum Polymer Technologies.

A quote from the above linked article which is food for thought:

I'd also wonder just how many here have over-polished their paint in that quest for perfect paint. I wound up polishing the paint past the limit and had to respray the car at over $5k. For me, hiding minor swirling is a better choice than permanently removing paint every couple months. You can always reglaze but sooner or later your show car will run out of paint to polish. Paint doesn't have to be perfect to look perfect.

I think I did that to one of my cars, the clear just started peeling off, but I think it was because it got so thin from repeated buffing that the base oxidized from UV and let go of the clear.
