kerosene heater

will using a kerosene jet heater to preheat my garage ruin the surfaces i will be painting?
since it is nearly impossible to get kerosene around here i am using deisel as an alternative
thanks

I use the kerosene heater to supply heat out side the booth not directly on the parts. I can maintain 75 degrees and higher with the fan pulling air out. They work, however mine won't run right on diesel. I know guys that ran diesel but it's dirty and smoky. May be worth it to find the kerosene even it takes a road trip and stock up.

i run farm diesel in my heater. always have. it's just dyed diesel. no smoke no damage. just never try to adjust them !

Ok so if i let it run to preheat and run it after each coats overspray clears i wont get any contamination issues from the exhaust and fumes?
I do have a 24" fan to drive out overspray

I need a new heater what brands are you guys using now days. I also use red farm diesel with out problems

I have a 30yr old craftsman bullet heater that is very well kept

Steve have you checked up at Calabro Airport. Close by. They should have K1 kero or equivalent.

bought a new one from northerntools this year. if yours is more than 5 years old it may need a rebuild. if the cone doesn't glow red hot your getting too much fuel.

FYI
I got a gauge to adjust the fuel pressure and changed all the filters,
cleaned the nozzle and it did help a little,
but it still had more smell than when it was new.
Then I read about a guy who said he changed the nozzle every year and it made a
difference. So I bought a new nozzle, found them on Ebay for about $15.00.
That made a huge difference, if your heater is making a lot of odor I suggest you
try a new nozzle, it sure made mine way better, for that price I may replace it
every year too. they must wear, because cleaning it didn't work.:encouragement:

i have a small one that is over 30 years old. i've replaced the pump once and every few years i replace the nozzle. big thing is too drain it at the end of the winter to get any water out of it.

yup been using a 210k one for the past 12 years or so. i run it every time to booth is on, basically every day for hours, as a supplement since my booth sucks shop air out. it runs on hho, same as diesel. never a contamination issue from it. i have had it in the booth and run out of fuel before as well. it pumps the booth full of white smoke for a sec then shuts down. still no contamination with that either. as shine said, the pump needs a rebuild every couple few years. there is a carbon rotor in there that needs replacing. some gaskets and filters too.

just ordered 2 nozzles one seems to be a nozzle siphon and the other a reg nozzle as my pump takes two of them in the blow out diagram.
also is kenmore a sears brand?
i thought my heater was a craftsman but it says sears on the side and all parts from my model# says for a kenmore unit

always check your tank for rust. my old one got a little flakey and it would restrict the intake. my new one will be a different story. has electronic thermostat so my guess is i'll have to replace it sooner or later.
