Is This Respirator Adequate

My plan is to spray primer on my vehicle, (outside of my garage) do the body work and find somebody else to spray the paint. It may be hard to find somebody to do just the spraying so there's an outside chance that I'll have to do that too.

Is this respirator ok for what I'm wanting to do? If I do buy it should I buy any extra cartridges or filters? This kit is $32.99. I don't want to spend more for something that's only going to be used a few times but if necessary I will. Any advice is appreciated.

I use one like it. Make sure you get the charcoal type cartridges that remove isocyanates.
Also, wear a painter's head sock and/or suit to cover your face and keep dust and hair off the paint.

I'll have to look and see if I can find some of the charcoal type cartridges. I think I've read that they need to be stored in baggies when not in use?

I’m certainly no expert, but do some research on self testing fit and seal checking.
If there is anything detectable in smell or taste, it’s a clear indication of inadequate protection.
That’s over simplified, but I’ve seen a couple of instances of IDLH atmospheres that prove those tests necessary.

That one will work, it lists the black label NIOSH approved organic vapor cartridges. Yes, they should be stored in a ziplock bag or in the bag it came in as the filters will continue to absorb just sitting there. I used the similar 3m version before upgrading to a full mask.

Thanks for the link Chris. In that thread here seems to be some disagreement as to how long the cartridges are good for but when it comes to something like this I think I'll go with the conservative estimate. Better to be safe than sorry.

Disagreement was from a novice and erroneous info he got from 3M.

you should at minimum use a full face to protect your eyes.

I use a fresh air system at work in the booth.

Chemicals will absorb through skin, eyes and ears.
