Is silicone rubber paint safe?

This may be really stupid... I thought of using a silicone rubber spatula as a stirring stick for heavy primers. I thought it would be wise to find out before I purchased one. So is silicone rubber paint safe?

What about RTV sealant & silicone caulking? Never given those things a thought. I have them in my shop. Also a fiberglass reinforced silicone welding curtain. Are any of these products paint safe?

I am well aware of silicone contamination and have been since the late 70s. Back then I painted a TR7 in black lacquer. It was a fisheye nightmare! My guess is had some sort of silicone polish system done at a detail shop. Since then I have been religious not using or having any products around such as Armor All, spray silicone or polishes.

as a solid i dont believe it will present an issue. for instance you caulk the seams of your spray booth with it and your welding curtain are probably fine but i would steer clear of the mixing stick though as that will be in direct contact with the paint. your better off with the aluminum ones the paint companies have available.

I can't answer your question but.........

Personally I prefer to play things safe when mixing any paint product. I purchased Dedoes painter rack mixing lids, black in color, from my local jobber for epoxy. I broke the gear wheel off and use my drill on slow speed to mix. I also purchased Finixa painter rack mixing lids that are gray in color to be used for SPI 2k gray primer so I don't accidently grab the wrong can.

Thanks guys,
Took me while to find one with a polypropylene handle and HDPE blade. I have some PPG mixing cups that are made from polypropylene and some TCP global made from HDPE. So that should be pretty safe.

I still would like to know for certain regarding the different types of products and the risk of having them in the shop.
