influx of spammers

I've deleted close to 90 new spammer accounts in the past 2 days, there are still 10 or so accounts that joined in the past week that i am questioning / watching. there is a vetting process when users join and their posts have to be approved, but if you see any questionable posts that look like they could be spammers, please "report" it.

When you say "flag it", do you mean report it? If so, is there a button to click on or just PM SPI administration?

Our church website had over 340 attempts to hack it, just in January.

Another site, that I am a moderator and approve or disapprove first posts, is also getting these guys that pretend to have a question but all they really want is to redirect you to some other site. This is after they have gone through the automated prescreening process.

Appreciate the great job you are doing Brian!

Yah, i notice too that they love to dig up 5 year old posts and make generic comments on it.

On a similar theme, my new favorite YouTube channel is "Scammer Payback" It is very interesting to see how simple it is for email scammers to get money out of people. The Payback crew reverse hacks into the scammers computers and gets victim lists, and shuts them down when possible. They provide lots of good info on how the scammers work.

Oh, how did I miss this? I've been deleting a lot of member applications lately! Not sure how we attracted so much spammer attention.

just dumped 74 more accounts created over the past 6 days.

I hope these are just bots and someone is not actually wasting their own time creating these profiles..

A local sheriff Richard Jones went to a confrence with other sheriffs. Its really something to listen to what they discussed and the problem with spammers-hackers. His press release is on u tube, not sure if it would be ok to leave a link for it here.

Yes, I believe many of them are bots. I have seen the same post numerous times but all with different names attached.

Yes sir, I saw that. Basically telling us we are on our own when it comes to protection due to the number of Red Flags.

I'm not going into detail about how these are being tracked or stopped as not to risk an exploit, but apparently i have ticked off one of these bots.. between 3:16am and 4:33am this morning we had 6,803 account creation attempts blocked from the same IP address in Moldova.
