In the market for a sander.

So I finally went pneumatic and picked up a Puma 60 gallon 3hp 13.5cfm@40 and 12cfm@90. I'm looking for a palm sander that won't break the bank and will run decently on my compressor...I know my compressor is underpowered for most air sanders.

I'm using this as a home hobbyist and will paint/sand a panel once in a blue moon. Is there a palm DA sander that will do both functions of knocking down old paint/filler and finish sanding?

I was looking into the Dynabrade but got overwhelmed. I would like to keep it under $125 or so.

I do have a electric orbital sander by Ridgid as well.

I've heard good feedback on the Dynabrade, I have two of the Snap-on palm sanders myself, that I think are the same sander.. I would definitely say to get the palm sander over the DA with the handle. In looking on Amazon, I found this IR for just over your budget number. I think you'll be hard pressed to keep the price under 125 in a decent brand unless you find one used at a local pawn shop or can find a factory rebuilt one...

I second the opinion of getting a palm (orbital) over a larger da.
I have a sears with a converted pad to use hook and loop and I have used better, but it still does a decent job. If I was to buy another today on a budget, I would check the pawn shops for a major name brand. Shops around here will plug a tool into a compressor so I can hear it run and never pay the price on the tag.

Be careful when you order from Amazon because they don't provide important information. That particular Ingersol Rand model has a 3/32" orbit, which means there is very little movement, might be OK for polishing but slow going for most sanding jobs. Just one digit lower model is a 3/16" orbit. National Tool Warehouse is selling the sander and an IR angle grinder for around $150. The grinder alone sells for about $70 so it softens the blow if you need both tools.

Thanks! So to clarify, I can use a palm orbital 3/16" as a finish sander as well?

I had a griot's garage 6" electric DA sander before and the size was just a pain to use. Most of the time I need to use it one-handed which hopefully the palm sander will work then.

I do more finishing than body/filler work.

If you are interested in Dynabrade , then check out Dynabrade outlet. They have a lot of new and refurbished sanders for really good prices.

Ended up with a Dynabrade silver supreme...used it for the first time today and the Husky orbital I tried out does not come close at all! Definitely was worth the price difference on hand comfort.

I had Dynabrade , IR, Snap-On, and Astro DA sanders, and guess which ones always sat on the cart unused. Any time I needed my Dynabrade I had to go ask the helpers where they took it, lol.

There's just something about the Dynabrades, smooth, well balanced, maybe? Everyone likes them.
