IN LINE REGULATOR

I looked at that at the local HD. To me the pressure range is too high, regulates from 40 to 140 psi.

I did a lot of research online for small diaphragm regulators. The RTI units work, have a nice range; 0-60 psi, and a big thing for me is a glass lens over the gauge. The plastic melts from thinner when the gun gets cleaned. This seems to be the best deal I could find.

Another one that looks interesting is the mini one on the bottom of the page.

I may order one of them to try out as long as it has a glass dial face.

I'm still a bit confused as I see people using the wall regulator to set the gun pressure for the Sata. That may work if the gun is set up for one function, clear only in my case, but could be a pain if want to vary the pressure at the gun without the digital. I may try it both ways.

I have the iwata gage too it works very well but very expensive. The glass lens is the deal maker

The setting on wall will work fine for medium solids or low solids clears or panel painting but will not work right for high solids such as PPG 2002 or mine and if that is not enough, you will waste about 15% of your clear and 7-10% on a base coat.
All this sata testing is none on q cards, I can make a q-card look like a base clear with a 99 cent spray can but not a door.

Good analogy, I get it. When HVLPs first came around it seemed more like a spray can, (compared to the old Binks 7 wide open with high air pressure way back in those days).
I'll stick with the high wall pressure and a regulator at the gun.
The Satra RP is new to me so if I still got a mess after some trial and error I'll be on the phone.

Never had any problems with RTI reg at the gun. My compressor kicks off at 175 and the wall regulator stays wide open.

Just received another RTi. I'm disappointed that they changed the gauge. I'm sure the reg/gauge will work but the old gauge is easier to read, and the housing/face retainer was chrome (clean easier). The new gauge has Bar 0-4 in addition to PSI which some may use, not me. At least it's still glass. RTi.jpg

I was already looking online for 0-60 gauges and glass seems harder to find.
I found a Iwata that looks good, compact diaphragm 0-60. I'll keep looking, I need about 4 more regulators and some separate gauges.RTi.jpg

I'll get the photo....I hope.

Wow, getting the photo in sucked.

Is it possible to connect your guage to your air hose then connect the female coupling so that you can just use that one guage for all of your guns?

yes, you could install the regulator on the end of your airline and put the female coupler above it......but it will add quite a bit of length to the assembly. The guage needs to monitor regulated air.
