If I make them smaller, the rods won't fit when they are new.So I’ve finally found an issue with the blocks The rods will not stay in my long block, they just slide out easily. Even just from sanding a light cross hatch they were sliding out. You might need to make the holes smaller Dean.

As a few have mentioned, there are some hacks like tape or shrink tubing.
I'm looking into making the rubber caps longer and tapered so they will wedge into the block and hold the rods even if the rubber handle relaxes and the holes open up a bit.
Can't you soften the square end of the rod so its not gouging the rubber, which makes the hole bigger? Wouldn't have to be to a point.
Jimmy, use your rotisserie to rotate the sides to horizontal. Use the weight of the block to help you. I use a bench to stand on.

The rods are currently machined after being cut. See close up picture. I didn't want a sharp edge at the tip to hang up or damage the hole in the rubber handle. The rod ends are circular. They could be rounded over but, that would be another added cost.
Interesting. I've heard quite a few reports that they started falling out as well, since they used steel clips in the body of the handle, which were subject to some wear over time. It’s interesting that the rods in my AFS block stay put. They take a bit of effort to remove.
Not complaining or criticizing, just sharing a data point.
