Fiberglass repair methods for a crack call for grinding into the crack, which could be a combination of a v-groove and feathering the grind out then you fill back in with resin and matt. Sand it close enough to level and finish with traditional quality body fillers. If crack is all the way through, which it usually is, you generally grind half way 1 side, repair, then half the other side.
Big rule here, If you were just putting resin only in crack, it has no chance of holding. combination of matt & resins & what makes fiberglass what it is.
Epoxy resins can give a stronger repair than polyester, but I have done plenty of repairs with quality polyester resin & matt.
Another big rule, everything shrinks gradually, new repairs can shrink a lot. fiberglass also shrinks to the highest heat exposed to. I'd set in & out of sun & warm with a heat gun a few times for a few days if possible to help stabilize before final finish fill & sand. Don't overheat the regular poly body filler.
Fiberglass repair hasn't changed much in over 50 years, not rocket science, but gotta know & understand a few basics to have success. I have recently glued fiberglass together with panel bond adhesive, but seams would more than likely still give ghost lines & need traditional grind & fill on at least 1 side.
