I need a dryer for my home system

I got a $40 dollar harbor freight oil and water separator and a devilbiss snake filter. There not working. I could use some ideas on the auto draining on the compressor as well. I don't have deep pockets so under $200 is my budget. I built my setup with the 35" of copper tubing before the separator with two p traps. I laid down some epoxy and it was such a awesome feeling to get that glass look. Then next time I came back and to spray it came out like donkey's ass. I'm so fed up with this painting, its defiantly not the paint. I just want to make that clear I'm not blaming SPI. It's either me or the my system. I'm so sick of my results I'm thinking about doing a rattle can job or try the SPI paints in one of those preval spray system. Either way I'll still not get the results I want but the job will be done.

You really haven't explained the "donkey's ass" very well, but it sounds like you may be using a gravity feed gun with the plastic filter/strainer in the bottom of the cup. Anytime you are using epoxy or high solids you don't want to use this filter, it clogs quickly/restricts flow where your spray starts to become "dry". Does this match your symptoms?

Sorry, I have explain the problem In past threads. But the filter could be a contributor of the problems I've been having. The problem is when I paint, the paint does not atomize most of the time and or there is moisture still in the lines. Cause the paint will come out textured either dimples witch I believe is the water droplets, or it will almost look like bunch of dots. I adjust the gun around see if its the gun settings and nothing changes for the good. I've had great results with the gun, so I'm pretty sure it's the drying system and or the compressor. It could be all compressor, dryer, gun, ... operator. Thanks for the quick response.

I don't think I have one. I've blasted it since then.

I'd say if you are using that plastic filter at the bottom of the cup, that is what is causing your spray issue. Anytime I've had water issues, there was no doubt about it, you could see them. If it is not readily apparent that it is a water issue, then I doubt that is your main problem at this point. Pull the cup's filter and spray again..

What kind of compressor are you using?

Have you tried blasting some cardboard with your blow gun for a period of time to see if water is coming out? There could definitely be moisture that you wouldn't see, but you would at least notice if there was a lot.

I run a 50' coil of pex between the compressor and filter to let the water return to liquid it made a huge difference. I also leave the drains cracked so water can drip anytime it builds up (into a pan). What air pressure do you run at your gun? If its not atomizing try turning up air pressure to gun a bit.

The guns I have say the highest it can run is 20psi, but I think they meant at the tip, because if I run 20psi I'm getting nothing but splatter. So I run 40 to 50 psi. I've been researching into franzinator and running a coil through a mini fridge.

you should be running full pressure then regulate the psi at the gun. adjusting line pressure to 40-50 will result in incorrect airflow and psi at the gun without a doubt.

have you checked ebay and craigslist in your area for a small refrigerated dryer. only a small one would be needed and you may be able to score a used one for your setup. other than that the cheapest one i know of new is the one harbor freight carries which really is a decent unit......believe it or not

Hey Jim I running full psi from the wall, I'm regulating down to 40-50 at the gun. The gun has a rating stamped in it that says 20psi max. After estimate 45' of copper tubing and another 50' + of hose I'm still getting around 150 psi at the gun, well that's what the regulator says. I'll look around. I got my mini fridge back today, it's a little to big for my dryer project.
