If you are going to clear the main color wait a day then want to put on the strip and clear again. I would not do that without sanding the clear between coats but that is just me. Someone else may know of it not being a problem but I have never done it without sanding between coats.

No need to clear between the base color and the stripe color unless you prefer to do it that way, some people do. When I spray lemans stripes or something like you are doing, I spray the base color, then wait approximately 2 hours (check the tech sheet for the paint system you are using for recoat times and handling times) then mask off the stripes and spray that color of base, remove masking and clear it all at one time. 3 coats clear, Let the clear dry a few days (at least one day in the sun is great) and then 600 grit it all flat to bury the stripes and 3 more coats of clear, sand and buff as normal. I cannot speak for any stencils though, as I have never used them, I always tape everything with fine line tape and lay it all out with measurements instead of the stencil kits.

Where did you find that stencil?

eBay has them listed sometimes or most all the Mustang dealers has them like CJ Pony, Mustangunlimited, Kentucky Mustang etc.
I have never used the template before and would just simply lay it out with tape except for the numbers that would be difficult that's why I was going with the template, I think it is called a Dearborn style hood template.

I'm not a Ford guy, but I was hoping there is a place making stencils of various decals. I'm not a fan of decals, so a "stencil warehouse" would be a big find for me!

That would be nice and probably cheaper too. This template that I am going to order is pricey. If you find anywhere to buy them let me know and I will do the same.
Thanks Dave

Most vinyl supply businesses (sign shops etc) can use a low tack masking film and cut whatever you want, not sure how the cost would compare to the premade stencils though, may be worth a look in your local areas.

I have had a few low tack decals made. They seem to do OK, but I have had some shrink and wrinkle from the paint. I'm always dreaming I'll find a multi-layer Trans Am bird!
