geo fx 97 vs. iwata supernova

The time is coming for me to make a spraygun choice
I have walcom geo fx97 that i love dearly and have owned it since i was in my early 20's i truly cant imagine a gun that is any better in my mind. But it is now pretty old parts are expensive and hard to come by.

I have sprayed with and partial to iwata....and rember when purchasing my geo and put my binks 2001 that i had since i was 14 to rest... if i had made the right decision then, once i used the geo i knew it was the right choice.

Now i am looking at the supernova 1.4 or rebuild my geo
Just wanted to know if any of you guys go through the same agony ...its like kicking an old friend to the curb, that has always been there for you.
If the iwata is that much better im willing to put my old friend away..

What did you think about the Iwata that you tried and was it the L?? or the supernova? I never could get a demo to try of any Iwata and seriously concidered them due to many good reports on the web. I have heard the Iwata is slow and I don't think that would suit me.

I do like and use the Geo guns, Fx92 put out a lot of nice work. Have not used that since the FX97, love the gun still use the 97 but true the gaskets under the nozzle suck. Also have the new Genesi HVLP, the stupid gasket is gone and the chrome is easier to clean:D.
Sorry, none of that helped but not too many Geo fans out there so I had to add my 2 cents.

I demoed the iwata about 15 years ago at the dupont training center. It had an indexible gun cup that seemed a little smaller than i liked. It like other iwata products sprayed beautifully but i fell in love with the geo because of the feel and capacity.

I really wish i could demo an iwata production speed doesn't really concern me..but if it is too slow to keep a wet edge that would matter. Also the fan/spray pattern of the supernova is supposed to be more consistent . When i worked on the B-2 appearance was secondary to mill thickness so a consistent pattern was important . I will only be painting a small amount of vehicles and a fine finish is what matters most to me

I have a geo that I spray for base, and I do have a supernova, honestly don't use it much, doesn't fit my style of painting, I may actually use the supernova for base to see how it does, but between the two I think i prefer the geo..

For clear I like the w400. I prefer that over the lph400 that I also use for clear.

It seems like there arent alot of guys out there that really love the supernova and really prefer the iwata 400.

My geo is pretty tired and parts are really expensive if you can find them. I was really excited about the supernova but if it isnt night and day over the geo i think ill stick with my old friend

Yup. I know a few guys who tried the supernova and the hybrid. They prefer the w400lv over both of them. What I would like to do is get my hands on a Supernova WS. Isn't for sale in the states anymore as it isn't a compliant gun.

I use the w400lv for base and clear. 1.3 base and 1.4 clear. My lph barely gets used now...mainly for doing bumper jobs and small stuff.
