Gas Powered Air Compressor

I think I know the answer to this, but thought I'd ask out of curiosity. Would a gas powered compressor be really bad for painting and/or media blasting?

It would be fine as long as the final air is cool and clean.
That will depend on the condition of the compressor and the
quality of the filtration.
The pump shouldn't know any difference between gas or electric drive.

Remember, a 10HP gas is not as efficient as a 10HP electric.

Not real up on this but seems to me years ago, I head it was a ratio of like 2:1 and AGAIN, I'm no expert on this so maybe someone else is.
I understood it to mean if you want a 5hp net, then gas should be 10HP??????????

I worked construction for quite a few years and used gas compressors. there sure was a lot of moisture drained from the tanks at the end of every day.

As long as the air is filtered like any air supply you use it won't make a difference. The compressor head has no idea what is making it turn.

The funny part is that if you could convert a gas motor driven compressor to run on natural gas, it would probably be cheaper to run than an electric in most areas of the country right now.
