Flex Portable Impact Driver

Bob Heine

Oldtimer
Came across a 10.8v Lithium-Ion cordless impact driver by Flex -- at Toolbarn.com. Gave it to my son-in-law for Xmas and ordered a second one for myself. They sent the drill/light instead. I kept it and had them send the driver as well. I built a new gate for the side yard and screwed it together (~80 wood screws) on one battery charge. Much lighter than my 18v tools and fit in tight places better.

Made in Germany, not China. On sale, both for $125 or individually for about half that much (lot of sites are selling these for $150 each).

I was interested in this Snap-On 7.2v impact driver but for $226 it was too much for my hobby application.

Thanks for the tip! I may look into one.

It's hard to find stuff not made in China now. Even the pricey Snap-On die grinder I was looking at today did not have the "Made in USA" on it, even though the dealer swore it was. After some careful examination of the paperwork that comes with the tool, I found it to say "Assembled in USA." For $200?!? Assuming the origin of the hard parts to be you-know-where, I passed. It steamed me to realize they are getting top dollar for offshore stuff, and being deliberately deceptive about it!!!

Snap-On isnt what it used to be, and not exclusivley made in the USA any more.

They also build tools for retailers under other names: Snap-On made an about-face and ventured into direct consumer retail sales by reaching a private label pact with Lowe's Home Improvement Warehouse.
Inaugurating a private label tool line known as Kobalt, the two companies were positioning themselves to compete against Sears' Craftsman brand, Wal-Mart's Popular Mechanics, and Home Depot's Husky brand name tool line.
