First wet sanding

Its been a little bit but im working on my wet sanding. I sprayed 3 coats of clear a week ago and have been slowly plugging away at my wet sanding. This is my first time and am overly worried about sanding through. I have not yet and im half way done ( i think ) with one side of the Bronco. I started with 800 then 1500 now im at 2000 grit paper. Im checking my progress as I go, Do i need to get rid of the orange peel 100%? Im worried that If i get it too thin i will burn through with the buffer later. Does the buffer take out the last little bit/small amount of orange peel? The feeling of the clear is very smooth and I cannot feel the grain of the orange peel any more but when it changes from wet to dry i can still see some very small spots, advice?

I hesitate to say, since everyone sprays differently. If there is not enough clear in any particular area, sanding too far will obviously result in a burn-through. But most of us who do custom paint will remove all the texture by the first grit, and the following grits are just to refine scratches, not to remove peel and texture. But it's perilous to give this advice over the internet, since people who are new to spraying will usually have thick and thin areas in their jobs, and will often end up with burn throughs no matter how the sanding was done. You'll have to use your best judgement based on what you see and how you know you sprayed it.

Stop right now and only do one panel to start with if colorsanding and buffing is new to you. There is a learning curve and if you're doing something wrong during the sanding stage it's better to learn it now and make a correction than to sand the whole vehicle wrong and end up chasing scratches, sanding, buffing, sanding, buffing... Do one panel start to finish first to get the hang of it.

i would start on a piece thats easy to respray. :) note:edges are easy to burn through!

Thanks guys ill do one panel at a time here on out. If I do burn thru as long as I dont sand thru the base I can just re clear it right?
