Filling holes in ABS plastic

Hey guys, title mostly says it all. I had a guy come to me with a brand new grill for his 2006 dodge ram. Paint to match the truck but he wants me to shave the big ram emblem in the center of the grill. It's sunk in about 3 1/16 and 2in by 2in area. What's the best way to go about doing this so it doesn't come back later on?? Appreciate the advice and happy turkey day to everyone!

fusor 100ez is all I use. it dries hard and cuts / sands good.

I actually have a tube of 3M ez sand plastic repair from a Job I did a while back, will this work well with ABS? If not I don't have a problem getting one that was mentioned but if I can use what I have I will.

crashtech, my only concern about beveling the edges is on the backside of the grill it sticks out just as far not leaving much material on the edges. i would burn through long before it would be beveled enough. in the pic you can see what i mean. image.jpg

The EZ sand might work, you'll have to download a tech sheet or call 3M. I don't know about it or the Fusor, 100ez, either one might be appropriate, I just stated what works for me.

You need a beveled edge regardless, so first prep the backside and put some material around the stepped edge. Then, when you bevel the outside, you will break through into your new material and not risk creating a large hole.

I prefer the SEM products crashtech mentioned. I have used both a fair amount of times, with no issues!

There's no benefit to using epoxy first is there? I know with abs promoter is not needed.

I think you will find with the SEM product you should use it exactly like the instructions recommend for the best results. I have always just made sure the surface I was applying it to was sanded and then applied it with no issues.
