Filler over 2K and 2K over filler

Sprayed Regular 2K over sanded epoxy. Blocked 2K and have a couple of areas that need a skim coat of filler. Can I apply filler over the 2K , sand and then apply another coat of 2K on top of the filler? Thanks in advance!

You're not supposed to apply 2K until you know the bodywork is done. Technically you are not supposed to put filler over 2K urethane, but shops do it all the time. Try and make sure the primer is well cured using heat, and that the filler is very well cured before re-priming. I would personally not do this if the primer was less than a week old.

I'm not a fan of using filler over 2k primer, if anything maybe a little glaze if the spots are small enough. If you are dealing with much worse I would consider stripping the primer back off.. however it also depends on the caliber of the car, I'm primarily speaking if it's a high end project.

Chad, so the only option is once your body work is done and you have laid down the 2k primer, more primer until your level?

More primer is the right way, but only if a reasonable number of coats will bring it around. Flooding 10 coats of primer into a low spot is going to bring trouble.

For this reason, we stay with epoxy until blocking shows that there are no spots low enough to need filler, then urethane primer can be used prior to final blocking.

Thanks Crash, I was actually quite surprised how much building the SPI Epoxy does and its so nice to sand and use for a guide coat without convential guide coat.
