just got finished putting epoxy over acid treated metal. I stripped it with https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008GS91TE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
then I went over it with 80 grit on a da to remove anything that was left. then I took it outside and sprayed it with a mixture of water and milkstone remover( phosphoric acid) and used a 4 1/2 in grinder with a wire wheel cup brush to work it into the metal.
then I wet the acid one more time with more acid and continued to rinse it off with water. next time I will wash it with dawn soap and a scotch brite because when I was wiping it off there was milkstone residue.
then I dried it off and blew it off really good and used heat guns to get it really dry. I went over it with 80 grit and a da again and wiped it down with wax and grease remover and shot it with spi epoxy 30 min later.
when you are wire wheeling the acid I was wearing a rain suit and full face mask and boots. make sure you do this in colder weather.
