Fiberglass Texture Repair

Hey all, new to this forum and first post. Always wrenching on my two '66 Fords and looking to learn more autobody techniques.

My current challenge is repairing the interior fiberglass panels on my '66 Mustang Fastback. They are cast with a texture in the fiberglass, but mine were cut up so I had to patch the holes with fiberglass. However, I'm now having troubles trying to replicate the texture of the fiberglass. I tried spreading a thin layer of 2-part epoxy over top of the fiberglass repair then when it almost dries rolling a piece of textured vinyl fabric over top, but this is the result.

My next plan is the sand down the patched areas and try making a silicon template from a good section of the panel, then using bondo body filler or resin jelly and stamping that? Open to suggestions.

Thanks!
Brent

Underneath the epoxy is smooth fiberglass from where I repaired a hole. I'll try sanding it down and see if it retains enough of the texture.

Used this "reverse mold" method before on other pieces to get a match, it might work here.
1. So you find a good section with nice texture hopefully in the shape that you want or close
2. Wax that good section then glass/epoxy over to create a mold.
3. pop your newly made mold off when dry
4. clean, wipe with glass/epoxy over the to be repaired area.
5. wipe the inside of your newly made mold with wax and press and tape onto your desired repaired area
6. when the epoxy dries, pop your newly made mold off and hopefully the needed repair area should duplicate.
Hope this helps.

(If I understand your last post this might be similar to what you are describing but using glass/epoxy for the mold material.)
