Epoxy questions for beginners

make sure a brand new gun is cleaned so there is no assembly lube / oil to cause fisheyes... i used hf purple quite well, then moved to an iwata which is twice as good... also, temperature is key on how it shoots, the warmer the smoother...

The fourth question probably sounds really dumb but I purchased gallon containers. What is the best way to get out a small portion and into the mixing container?

I use gallon mixing lids for all the gallon cans of primer/epoxy......made a driver for the cordless drill.

Makes it very easy to mix, and to dispense the exact amount needed. When the can is empty, you just move the mixing lid to the new can of the same material.

Does someone know where we can purchase these lids?

I also have a beginner question that I obviously will get a knack for with time;

How much to mix?
Roughly how many ounces per sq ft of coverage?

^ Perfect.

Thanks.

I to ran into the question of how to pour out of the gallon can when I came across some mixing cups in the cubboard (girlfriend was not impressed with this idea). They worked great, they have a little handle on them for dipping and pouring. I went to dollar store and picked up a bunch for .50 apiece.

I figure 1 sprayable ounce to 1 square ft,
that gives me about 3 coats.

The last time I got them from my paint store they charged me $6.00 for the gallon size.

It seems to me that one could use a GRAVY ladell to dip out the paint until enough is gone to be more manageable...as in easier to pour. Got this idea from Kevin Tates' "paintucation" DVD.

your gonna make a god awful mess. for epoxy or primer i've done the same thing for years. no muss no fuss. 2 screws and your done.
i mix small amounts sometimes. works better than dipping.
slap a piece of 2 in tape over the rim and hole and you can keep the lid clean.acc lid.jpg

Hi Mitch,
Yes it seemed like a good idea. I appreciate all of your help here on the forum. FYI, I have not heard back from "dutchman" about WANDA. I need to get wanda orderd as well as the SPI 2k primer. I plan to use the SPI-2K primer as a sanding sealer coat to sand it down ready for my base coat (SS). I am not sure I said that correctly:)
I need to know how much I need to order of each product.
Is this the correct thread to ask these questions? Or can you suggest where I should post it?

It looks as though "SHINE" has a great way also. Mine was just a thought...yours looks better SHINE:)

I would PM Barry, or just call SPI. They will be more than capable with helping you out. Otherwise, just start a new thread in the Primers section asking your questions. Most of the time on forums people don't respond to PMs instantly, it may take a couple days.

Forgot to mention, I said I have used the ladle before and that it does work. Now, however, I just invest in these

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00B2H7JMC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They make them in gallon sizes as well, stirs up very well and is super easy to control the pour.

keep in mind those are for mixing banks. paint does not last long on a bank. they end up messy and loose solvents .
