Epoxy primer question

The plan was to take the car to metal. Two coats epoxy, filler with guide coats, the another one or two coats epoxy. then base and clear.
two questions: how sandable is the epoxy. I’ve seen a guy ranting about the poor sandability of epoxies. Wasn’t talking specifically about spi.
second: rather than the last coats of epoxy, should be primed with something better for the final paint. Or a coat of epoxy than something else. TIA

SPI epoxy is very sandable, I found it's better to put several coats on first, put more than you think you need and start blocking with 150 or 180 and refrain from pressing hard to sand as it sands very well letting the sandpaper do the work. You'll find you prob won't want to put a primer filler on at all as the epoxy builds nice and will block out and sand about as well as 2k and is more durable. You won't final prime with anything better than spi epoxy. A final reduced piss coat of epoxy for final sealer just before base or SS. You need to get this epoxy and start working with it and don't look back. ;)

SPI epoxy is the only primer I use. The SPI epoxy sands just as easy as regular primer.
I do old cars so they have to stand the test of time. I do bare metal, 3 coats epoxy, filler, then more epoxy. I will block sand the epoxy then use a reduced coat (1:1:1) of SPI epoxy as a sealer before paint. Strength wise SPI epoxy is the best primer you could use. I always do 3 coats because the panels need to be straight.
