Epoxy Primer over factory paint

Can I sand factory paint and epoxy primer over it, or is it essential to take it to bare metal? I have a hood and a door with factory paint on them and don't want to strip if I don't have to. If so, what grit? Thanks.
 
It's actually on an 88 Bronco so I imagine it's an enamel coating FYI
 
No problem putting over factory paint. I would sand with 180 or 320 so long there isn't any issues with the paint.
 
Thank you for the input. I sanded a factory enamel hood with 80 grit, cleaned, and the epoxy stuck great.
