Epoxy Primer makes a sealer?

I read that people use a sealer then primer. They reduce the epoxy primer 5 to 10% max to make a sealer? Why make a sealer if it's all made from epoxy primer?
Is a sealer necessary?
I bought SPI Black Epoxy Primer and Black Single Stage. Will clear coat it later.
SPI says to use a 1.4 to a 1.5 tip for the Epoxy.
Will the the Epoxy Primer turned sealer by reduced 5% , spray through a 1.2 tip?
Can I spray the SPI Single Stage Black on the sealer?
My Compressor small so I bought a Iwata LPH80 124G with a 1.2 tip.

I am not sure where you are getting the 5 to 10 percent reduction. It’s 10 to 50% for sealer. The less you reduce it the longer you should wait before base. 50% in an hour or so, 25% overnight etc…

Yes you can spray single stage on epoxy sealer.

The tech manual is a very useful document.

I normally reduce the epoxy by 50% (1:1:1) when using as a sealer.
A decent compressor is not an option if you plan on painting vehicles. Using a tip size smaller than recommended for the product will also have a negative effect.

The Paint gun is a mini jet, I'm painting Harley tanks and fenders. Don't need a full size gun. 1.8 CFM my compressor will do that easily

The sealer is nice because it will fill in any forgotten scratches and will give an amazing uniform base for the top coat. Once you use it, you'll understand why it's so nice. Just one even coat will getcha.

What's your ratio for reducing epoxy as a sealer?

I mix the epoxy 1:1:1 as a sealer then a light coat at 70deg and will base coat in 30 mins on collision repair but longer time on restoration work. So a lot of ways to use SPI epoxy

So 1:1:1 is basically 1/3 rd epoxy, hardner and reducer for the sealer. Then regular epoxy mix or shoot the base? Being reduced that much can it be sprayed with a 1.2 instead of the suggested 1.4 to 1.5 ?
Thanks

You can spray reduced epoxy as a sealer mixed 1:1:1 through the lph-80. I do it regularly on small parts
I just finished spraying a VW chassis with a cheap mini gun and a 1.0 tip about 10 minutes ago. It was 3 coats of full-strength epoxy mixed 1:1. It Went well and laid down smooth, which is much more than I deserve since it was my first time, EVER, spraying anything.
