Does anyone use a 3" Buffer

I'm wondering if anyone uses a 3" Buffer.

Something like this:

I get nervous with my 7" Makita buffer around edges. I will be buffing my 72 Camaro and there's alot of tight areas on the front and rear panels plus if I want to touch up my door jambs.

Is this a waiste of money or might it save me from a break thru. BTW, I have never taped my edges while buffing and I think that's something I should do.

Thanks, Steve

i use a small buffer and also use a small 3 inch one. i use a ton of blue tape on every job. 2 in and 3/4 in both .

How often do you use the 3" buffer, why do you use it instead of your regular small buffer?

i try to make sure hard to buff areas do not need it. but there are times a 2-3 inch pad is all that will fit. it is also easier to control when doing the final details . i use blue tape to protect any place there is a chance to burn. the edge of the pad is often what bites you .
i use 6.5 in pads instead of the big ones.

Thanks Shine.

i'm going to let you in on a secrete . for 30 years or so i have carried a DA list into the booth with me . it improves the outcome by light years .
it is my " Dumb Ass List " . it is my last reminder to check things and make sure i shoot all the trouble spots first and to make damn sure around windows or revels and such get extra care. i'm not the least bit concerned with the middle of a panel . my attention is to all the pia spots that will bite me. this why i dont sand edges or body lines. i tape them off before sanding.

i think i use my 3" just as much as my makita buffer. i found the cheap ones including the 3m just absolutely $uck. they have no torque and the pistol grip ones just wear out your wrist. i knew i was going to use mine alot so i invested in a good one. i have the one below and its hands down the best 3" buffer you can buy. well worth the investment.

Thanks for the advice on the cheaper buffers (3M, IR, etc.)

Do you use the 3" buffer on cars/truck a lot or mostly motorcycle parts?

Thanks, Steve

I use it on both. It just comes in handy on almost anything. Tight areas or places where a full size might get you in trouble

I use a Blue Point Mini Polisher/Buffer. As others have mentioned it works great in area's where you can't get a larger buffer to work. Here is the one I bought. I know several people using this mini polisher, and it appears it is a good quality for the price. Snap on dealer sell them, normally.
