crevice and contour sanding

whats every one using now days? i used to have a drill mounted flap with brushes behind sand paper strips. sand o flex i think it was called. worked real good for things like the wiper cowl.
bristle disc?
these 80s dodge tail gates, i dont think there is very much flat surface to it. they really made it difficult.

be a lot of blasting to do a whole tailgate.
how about these flap mop mounted things i see on the innerwebs? they kinda like what i had.
i see new sand o flex tools also, they really went up lol.

You will be so far ahead time wise to use one of those spot blasters rather than hand sand, wire wheel, what have you. It can literally take hours/days to hand strip small areas that are hard to reach. And make you hate life. One of those spot blasters or self contained spot blasters will save you tons of time.

crushed glass. fine coal slag works well too. its more aggressive though and it will warp panels easier. crushed glass is difficult to warp with. you can but much harder. NEVER use sand

well, you guys are talking me into blasting. could i use the big blaster instead of the spot blaster? i think its 100lb el cheapo. warping is what im afraid of. so far i have only used the spot blaster on body panels........its really gonna be slow if i have to do the whole tail gate with it.
i think? horrible freight has crushed glass?

65 psi or so. It will take some experimenting depending on media, the blaster, the nozzle, and the angle. I’ve never warped anything.

Don
thanks Don. i am more used to working with heavier metal. but, with you guys help i am gaining more knowledge on tin all the time.

Make sure your air supply is dry or it will not go well.
well, im working on that. yesterday we ran two sanders for 3-1/2 hours. i was checking the water traps every so often, was curious how this pipe system would do. only the first trap near the compressor had any water for the first two hours. i thought great! by hour three all the traps had a little, when we quit even the filter had a little water and i could feel some moisture while blowing my clothes off.
so it does help, but its not the end all. we were pushing and the compressor ran almost non stop to keep up with two sanders. also it was kinda humid. they keep saying we are getting a cool down but it aint come yet.

also i am thinking of making up a shorter line. dont need 50' of hose now that the outlet is on the end of the building. maybe 30' would do.

Have you ever seen a serious blaster in operation? After years puttering with my little home setup wondering about warpage I had a pro come for this A100... if you see that rig in action it becomes clear where the warpage worry comes from.. that setup could blow a hole in a panel.... I am not a worried about my little wimpy home setup as much now. I don't think you have to worry about warping a tailgate with a home setup. A thin roof, hood, trunk panel maybe if you are not careful.
