With this carizzma base do I have to use their bch2 activator and ur reducer or can I use my spi in its place? I haven't been able to find any answers in my searches here or elsewhere. Can I use this as a ground coat and clear over it? Thanks for any input.

I have always used bc/cc or single stage paint. I have never sprayed candy before although I am somewhat familiar with the usual candy steps of ground, midcoat, clear like hok but never sprayed it. Trying to do this without too many mistakes. Just trying to learn something new.

Main things to remember about candys is to spray light to light medium coats, you never want to lay down wet coats, increase your overlap to almost 75% and be prepared to walk the entire length of whatever it is you are painting. Never panel paint as you will end up with darker spots at the ends of panels where you overlapped.

As for the activator use the activator designed for the product.

For starters I don't think I would want to mix/match ingredients with something I never used or sprayed before. There are alot of different manuf. of paint and I don't believe there would be anyone willing to risk a disaster on a specialty paint job just to find out but if your willing.......

Thanks for the replies. I knew it had to be activated to keep from bleeding. I was hoping to be able to use spi clear activator. The nearest r-m store is about an hour away. I have used spi reducer in diamont and chromabase with no problems. It's all I use now. I don't have anything to put this on as of yet. I was trying to learn to use it so probably will go on a sportbike next year. Thanks again for the responses

spi reducer is just fine in the carizzma candies. carizzma is just plain old diamont basecoat with candy dye. there is nothing different in the makup of it. catalyst is not a must as its just base but as with any base i HIGHLY recommend you add some cat to it. spi clearcoat cat is just fine. you dont need to spend $180 on a qt of special basf hardener. you also dont need to use bc00 for the clear binder. you can mix the dye base right into spi intercoat clear. as for the cat and bleeding.....it has no effect. the dye will move with the solvents catalyzed or not. you wont ever stop bleeding 100%. your best defense against that is allowing alot of flash time between coats, dont spray heavy and let sit overnight before clear. been using carizzma line for prob 10 years since it came out.

Thank you Jim C. You answered all the questions that I had not asked but needed to know. I really appreciate all the good information on this site. Lots of knowledge here

Jim surely is the one that knows just about every paint brand out, you can take his word on the subject to the bank.

Thanks Datec this will be a learning experience for me. I have sprayed plenty of paint just not candy. Who knows, it may be easier than I think. We will see.
