I have a car that am painting kandy apple red so i need more than one gallon of clear to protect the kandy. I already have one gallon of hok but was wondering if it was a good idea to buy a gallon of spi clear and shoot it right over the hok clear. Has anyone done it? Will it work?

If the plan is shoot the HoC and next day wetsand and reclear, no problem.

If plan is spray the SPI wet on wet over the HoC, I would shy away as the risk is there.

anytime you do anything like that with anyone's products you dont want to do it wet on wet. as barry said, clear, let cure, sand and reclear. you can probably do without the sanding part if you wait until the far end of hok's recoat window which is probably 16-24 hours without going over.

People shoot clears over different clears everyday in collision shops. I would definately allow the HOK to lock up good, then sand or scuff before shooting the SPI. If you feel the need to do a wet on wet application it would be very important to do a test first to check compatability-I've heard of people have problems with HOK clear wrinkling when recoating too slow-there is a point during the cure where the HOK clear is fairly sensitive from what I've been told.

that is true.. hok's reducers are very hot.. more so then any reducer i have ever used.. and thus can be wrinkling sensitive. id give it more then a day though.. especially if u did a uk kandy.. thats alot of film in a short period. if uve used all hok all the way through.. primer up.. then keep it hok.. then save the spi for the next job and use spi intercoat for your next candy job.

if it was more cured for a longer period id say go ahead and clear with something else..
