buying more paint, chance they don't match well ?

HI Guys,

when I bought the base for my car I got 2 quarts of Dupont Chromabase, giving me 1 gallon to use. I seem to be running through it faster than expected, so I want another quart before I hit the rest of the car. My question is, when I go buy the extra quart from the same place that mixed it last time, is there any chance the old/new batch can be different shades or anything? I plan on just mixing the whole lot and going from there, but don't want any parts to look a hair different, say the doors which I haven't painted and the side mirrors which have been done for a while.

any suggestions/advice is greatly appreciated!

It's very likely to look a little different. Whether this will be noticeable depends on the positions of the parts on the vehicle.

I'm not sure what suggestion you are looking for. I would do a sprayout of the new batch, and compare it to something already painted. If the color is off, take the paint and the already painted part back to the store and ask them to make it match. Then do another sprayout. Repeat if necessary. Only once you are sure the paint matches should you proceed. Even then, the best thing would be to use the new stuff to get coverage, then use your remaining paint for the last coat. I would not normally mix it together with what has already been used on the vehicle.

Thanks for the advice. The part where you'd do the last coat with the original paint is exactly the recommendation I was looking for. I have about 2 sprayable quarts left, and have to paint the trunk, roof, front bumper and entire sides. The jamps, inside of the doors, and around the windshield are all done, but took more paint than expected at 3 coats. Thanks again.
