Business Plans and Planning

i do not do restorations. stopped doing them in the early 80's . i research the market and build what will sell. the restomod corvette market will be strong for many years to come. streetrods are dead now , the market is saturated and prices have dropped for the last 5 years. i have a strong enough customer base to sell most anything i build....... i hope :) . i have a customer now for a 48 buick sedanette restomod. he bought my 37 ford coupe and they now want a bigger car. my 46 ford sedan has several interested buyers but i really want to keep it. it's one of a kind. if you do good work you will never be idle .

i'm a one man show here and have been since about 90 . just got tired of supporting a big shop and crew. too much hassle for me. my new venture will be the same but without customer problems. when a car is done it's for sale.

This is my thinking as well. I do not want the hassle of the business with employees anymore just like tinkering with a couple of cars a year.

Shine.... I would love to see how that would fit into a "business plan". Wonder how much $$$$ it is worth to have a reputation for doing great work.

I definately agree that "if you do good work, you will stay busy". If people are determined to do average work, they will be just average. That means that they will be fighting with a lot of other people for the few customers that want "marginal" work done on their cars and trucks. Everyone wants to save money on the work on their cars, but they still want them to be "better than new".

I have been turning down work for the last couple of years. I have 3 cars in the garage right now, and once they are done, I hope to not see anyone else's car in there for a while. It gets exhausting constantly having someone else's cars to work on at home. One day I want to work on one of my own.

having a car presold helps . i have one sold already but it's not a corvette. and haven't committed to building it yet. it's for one of my old customers who bought one before.
believe me having a good reputation is a huge part of a business plan. the whole point of a plan is to convince the bank you can do it. they want to see on paper what you are planning to do , how your going to do it and how long before it's done. it will take about 65k to build a restomod and even if i had it in the bank i would still use the banks money instead.
the main reason for the change is i want full control of the build . i've built 32 cars frame up and now want to do some things i have had planned for years. like Inderweed . as soon as i finish my shop truck it will be next. it is the same wheelbase as a corvette :) doors.jpg
