Body Fillers

I own a shop and in the throws of running the shop, I don't have time to really evaluate things at times unless there is an issue. We've been using 3m filler for years. My jobber ran out and we grabbed a couple of gallons of UPOL Gold for maybe 1/2-1/3 of the cost. Man, I really like it. Now I'm wondering what everybody else uses? And as a business person, what else am I over paying for?

I know what opinions are like but just curious about other thoughts on filler. Opinions on UPOL?

Thanks,
Bart

I've used some UPOL in the past and had no issues. if cost isn't a factor there are other fillers I like better, but for the money they are pretty good. The only UPOL filler that I've tried that I wouldn't use again is their fibral lite filler. Lately I've been using USC pro-7 premium and really like it. I was using rage ultra before I switched to the USC.

I sell a lot of the U-pol flyweight gold #745 and have very good luck with it. My customers really seem to like it a lot especially the price. I also sell the fibril #700 with good luck.

I don't usually buy on price, but the flip side is, I don't like throwing money away either. Yes it was U-pol flyweight gold. Me and the guys like it. I hope it holds up.

Ive been using the Upol gold for about 7 years love it,I use a lot of their other products too

I don't think I could go back to USC after all the issues that lots of folks had with their BaseCoat/Clearcoat filler. I personally had to redo about a dozen cars at the Shop I worked at because of the filler cracking. (Thick coats thin coats didn't matter stuff cracked and fell out). USC wouldn't stand behind their stuff and I working commission at the time had to eat every one of those comebacks. Many many others had the same problem. Don't think I could trust them ever again.

thanks for the info Chris. How long did it take for problems to show up? I've only been using USC for a couple months so I might go back to rage ultra. The only reason I started using their pro-7 premium is because it applies smoother then the rage ultra, sands almost as good and I can get it for $15 less a gallon, but I don't want to risk having to eat a job over $15.

This was back in the late '90's early 2000's. It would appear anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. I would assume they've corrected it, they still sell the BC/CC filler. It just left me with a near hatred for USC after the cracking issue started and the shop owner who was on several national AutoBody Association's confirmed it with a lot of other shops that were having the same problem. Still didn't stop him from having me repair them all on my time though. I did about a dozen comebacks and said to hell with it and quit.
