Body filler question

HIG

I'm sorry to ask this but have always felt stupid asking it but here goes:

When you are mixing up filler (anything that requires hardener) I know that the the more hardener you add the faster it sets up but does it actually make the filler "Harder".

Just wondering because if you do a couple of coats of filler in one area will those different coats sand differently causing waves?

Thanks for all the help!!
Steve

Yes!!! They do sand differently, not only because of the different hardener amounts but
also because of the different curing times.
That's why a skim coat of putty over the entire surface when done works better.
A good poly primer over everything does the same thing.
That way everything sands the same.
Not a dumb question at all.

Thanks for the replies. The skim coat or poly primer does make sense in order to get a consistent material to sand.

wow, I just learned something. I never considered that. I also use multiple skim coats to get it smooth, not a fan of piling it on. Thanks!
