Black epoxy question

I am close to paint on my 69 mustang. I'm using all SPI products. The hood needs to be satin black. I have already put a couple coats of black epoxy down and am getting ready to put on black turbo. Getting ready to order paint. Just not wanting to buy a gallon of matte black when I only need a little for the hood. Question is this. I'm gonna spray an epoxy sealer coat before paint so can I just leave the epoxy in place of the matte black?
Trying to save some money but don't wanna risk the proper appearance.

no especially on the hood. you will really need to spray matte black on it. it will look alot better and more even anyway.

I have always loved matte black, but I have never committed to using it. You have to get it perfect when you shoot it. If you rub out runs, nibs, bugs, imperfections, it will shine in those spots. I have never had it to maintain it, so my input is just from people who have shared the downside of using it. There are some new products on the market specifically for maintainance of matte black, and if they work, it may be getting more easy to maintain. If you shoot the matte black, please let us know how it goes. Im always so tempted to give it a try.

The matte black is awesome. I used it on a few rear spoilers, one hood scoop and 3 or 4 engine compartments. I like it mixed 4:1, but you can play with the gloss levels. I have used some other matte blacks but spi's is the easiest I've sprayed.

Dmatt, how is the maintainance on the matte black? Did you get a perfect spray when you shot it or did you have any runs, nibs, or overspray to deal with?

Thanks, does the 4:1 make the low gloss level for a correct 69 mach1 hood appearance? Or does one of the other formulas look better? Thanks

4:1 is the is what I call more of a satin, 6:1 like maybe eggshell, 8:1 is dead flat. you would just have to do some spray outs to determine the mix. whether it was original or not all of my customers so far have preferred the 4:1. I did the rear spoiler on a 2010 challenger cause the customer wanted it to match the black stripes down the side and 4:1 was dead on. as far as maintenance goes I don't know. it cant be to bad cause all the stuff I sprayed with it that I've seen down the road still looks good. a 56 chevy firewall I done the owner said he just uses a detailer for matte finishes. Outlaw as far as spraying it is easy to spray, but there is no repairing it. if you get a chunk of dirt that stands out a respray the only way I know to fix it.

DM is right and that is the problem with matt finishes, what you see is what you got....
Maintenance, never wax an d best money you will ever spend is buy a spray bottle of a matt, type show and shine.
Spray hood once a week and bugs will wash off as well as bird stuff.

Im really getting confused by the different ratios I see on epoxy here. 4:1, 6:1, 8:1. Is that a parts of mixed epoxy to reducer ratio? How is less reducer resulting in more flatness?

NO, this is not epoxy but talking about the matte black paint.
