Best way to ATTACK my El Camino

What spray pattern should I spray my 79 El Camino? Where should I start? 1) the roof and A/B pillars then......? How would you spray the bed? Walls then the bed or the bed then the walls? Do I spray the bed area separately from the outter shell similar to spraying door jabms? I have access to a rotisserie.

Thanks in advance!

I am doing a 64 El Camino. The body was on a rotisserie which makes it a lot easier to spray the bed. I masked off the
bed from the rest of the body and shot it separately. I was able to mask off the cab from the bed where the trim around
the rear window is located. I am just a hobbist painter so this seemed to me the easiest way to go. To me, buffing out the ridges
in the bed was the hardest part. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Did you just flip the car over to shoot the bed standing straight up?

Can't remember exactly how I sprayed it, but as I remember I just sprayed the bottom of the bed in the vertical position. I don't really think you need to have
the body on a rotisserie to do the bed as most paint shops don't do it that way. Since I don't have a paint booth I felt trying to do the whole car at once
was way more than I could handle. To me doing the bed was the hardest part of the whole car.

I find roofs are the worst for me.

To shoot the bed I mask it off at the inner lower edge of the bed rail.
Anything I don't want paint on is masked off, I use the Norton blue plastic film for large areas.
Once masked off I shoot the inner sidewalls then the floor.
I don't know if the pros do it this way but I have had good results.
I like the exterior masked off as it makes it a nice place to lean against to get a good "angle" to shoot the side from.

You probably shoot the bed the way a shop would paint it. The sidewalls did seem to be the hardest to paint.

How do you like the Norton blue plastic?

Jim

The plastic works great for large areas.
I find it to be quite affordable,a roll goes a long way.
