Base coat opinions

i have never found the need to intermix the spi reducers. i have always used them as they are. if your using the 2.1 universal clear just add 10% reducer. if your using the regular voc universal clear then no reducer is really needed.

No reducer is needed for Universal #4000. For large areas at normal temps, Slow #4003 should be used, imo.

I worded my previous post poorly, what I meant is that I was thinking of intermixing slow and medium clear activator if I buy another gal of clear and activator. I have no intention of reducing my clear. And maybe buy a slow reducer to mix with regular for my basecoat.

As of right now I only have regular activator for clear and regular reducer for my basecoat. I was thinking about purchasing another gal of clear and getting slow activator this time and mixing regular and slow since from what I have read slow seems to be better as it has less solvent and provides better gloss. Im only doing piece work, so my largest piece will be the cab of my pickup, maybe two box sides at some point as well but not at the same time as the cab. My booth is only 12ft x 12ft.

Since Im only doing pieces I dont know which direction to take. The temp is dropping fast too, I can maintain 70 in the shop but when I run my fan it cools off quick and takes a bit to recover. Im going to look into a propane torpedo heater to help compensate when Im spraying, it makes me nervous with the temps fluctuating.
