Another question about SPI Epoxy

Work and family have consumed a lot of my time recently with some unplanned events. I initially shot 3 coats of epoxy on the car, blocked it and did some filler work. I shot 3 more coats of epoxy and have sanded it up to 320. My last coats of epoxy primer are now 8 days old. I have a few hours to work tomorrow, but will be out of town this weekend. When I return the epoxy will be at day 14. The tech sheet says that at day 14 I would need to sand with 180 and reapply the epoxy, which would undo a lot of the work I just did. o_O Would shooting a coat tomorrow help me kick the can down the road?

If you want to get 180 scratches on there for piece of mind but don;t want to sand half your epoxy off or spend a lot of extra time sanding, 3M 7446 is a scotchbrite pad that is equivalent to 150-180 grit. Makes short work of scuffing the surface and doesn't remove much material. Saves a lot of time when having to get scratches on the epoxy.

Thanks for the replies. I'll leave it here for now and make it top priority to get a fresh coat of epoxy on it Tues morning. Then hopefully the last sanding and then seal it. From what I gather P600 is recommended before sealer if spraying metallics?

To be safe yes. SPI epoxy mixed 1:1:25% will cover 320 scratches but if I'm doing a metallic I will always finish with 600 wet. 400 wet for solids.

What is the car in the pic? Looks like a Lotus Elise or Exige but not sure. Also looks like you have a pretty decent place to spray as well.

Earlier this year I let my 3 coats of SPI Epoxy dry for 8 days then I blocked it with 180, did some minor Dolphin Glaze work, recoated with 2 coats of epoxy, let that sit 8 days more blocked again with 180 and 220 then shot 2 coats of high build primer. Blocked that real good all the way to 600 shot a coat of sealer and an hour and a half later shot my base/clear. That's just the way I wanted to do it.
