Am I doing this right??

I think the dimples are good ol' fashioned human error. The metal on the aftermarket stuff is really thin and moves around more than the factory stuff and I think I was pushing a bit hard. You can see by the reflections that the hood is just not right and there are some little dimples on the pass side - you don't see them in the sun but there ain't no hiding from the garage lights!

All in all it is turning out really nice, especially in the sun. These pics are fresh after extra cut/twisted wool with no other compounds.

i threw away my spur many years ago. i use a pin point blower to clean my pads. the spur will eat them up in time.

I hadn't thought of that, good idea. I noticed that my garage floor looks like a cotton field after all the spurring. The good ideas from here never stop.......

Unless you are going to be displaying it at indoor shows why not just leave it alone?

Only you will know they are there, keep your mouth shut about them and move on.

The color mismatch between the hood and fenders is far more noticable to my eye.

Yeah, I think I am just going to finish the car and see if it still bugs me when I am actually done and enjoying the car. This is the one thing I hate about doing something like this yourself - your eye always goes to the flaw only you know is there.
The color mismatch in the pic is just the garage lighting/camera flash, the whole car was sprayed assembled & looks great in person. Like I said, I was surprised at how little flaws pop under the garage lights.

Looks fantastic! you'll beat yourself up trying to get a glass hood to look like stamped sheetmetal. Just leave it and enoy the car! JOB WELL DONE!!!!

it looks killer! dont let a few inches of percieved error ruin a few square yards of beauty irk you. leave it or youll screw something up. its technically not that much of an error. im the same way. i just see the mistakes, i look at my bikes from 6 inches away. my biker buddies tell me if anybody is looking at their harleys that close they better be a painter or step away. my mom says the same thing sof says. keep your mouth shut about the percieved mistakes and enjoy the comments! she did high $ wedding decorations and was the same way but her teacher told her that too...

the true overall test will be after a few months in the sun for painting mistakes, and maybe a few rocks on the road...:)

again it looks great!

Now finish up with a good polish to remove all those tiny compound scratches and the gloss level will go way up!

I hope mine comes out this well after sanding and buffing. just finished spraying clear today.
Any suggestions on which buffer and pads to get? planning on using the 3m kit shown here.

Well, I think I am (finally) done with the cut/buff process on this thing - I think this part is the most difficult, time consuming, and rewarding part of the process. I went over the whole car one last time with megs 105 and wool then went to foam pad and megs 205 @ 1200 rpm. The polish part really makes it pop! Thanks for the help with this part, I had never done it before and was really afraid of messing up but it went well. After polishing it up the hood doesn't bother me as much so I will just leave it alone. I still have to do the rear spoiler but that won't take long.

Hey Blazerman,
You should be VERY PROUD of how that has turned out. If me and my dad can get his 57' vette looking like that, you will not be able to wipe the smile off of my face, LOL!!! I have a 78' camaro that I run on the drag strip. I will be stripping and painting it during the off season. My colors will be black with red "rally stripes". What size cowl is that on the hood, 4"? Anyway, that is an AWESOME job buddy!!!
