Airbrush Masking and Stencil Film

I'm looking for your input on masking films for freehand graphic work. Gimme some good reviews!

And I'm doing a set of bike tins.... 4 shades of green 2 shades of gold and some brown for fun, with more detail than I can mask out with tape. I have time so I will wait for Nub to call me back. He has more tricks up his sleeve than I can think of. But I figured I'd try here also.

Well Nub said he uses Avery Paint mask. Same stuff that you would put threw a plotter if you had one. Leaves no residue, is low stick, and hold a solid paint line. I'm gonna give it a try....

I've used the Avery and don't recall any issues. Some of the mask vinyls are stiff and brittle, some are nice and plyable.
I took a second look at the material on that tcglobal link, it's transfer tape!, what you use to transfer the cut vinyl.
I have plenty of that already in both clear and semi transparent. I have used the semi transparent transfer tape for masks in the past hand cutting signs on flat substrates.
It does work but switched to vinyl with the plotter. The vinyl makes a cleaner edge and is more reliable (sticks better).

I think mid page there was masking vinyl but none the less I will try the avery and see how it goes. Wish me luck lol

I use decal transfer paper-but I don't do much artwork anymore so I've had the same roll for years. I've also got some transparent 3M film on a roll-kinda looks like scotch tape but is pink. And some sheets of Frisket paper from the art shop that I haven't tried yet. I wish 3M would offer wide rolls of the old fine line tape film but it would be expensive! I just bought two rolls of 1/4 fine line $30! ridiculous.

i use spray mask vinyl (has backing), 1/8th" - 2" green tape etc. remember candy bleeds through transfer paper...i got spray mask vinyl from signwarehouse in texas, i dont remember tcp having anything with backing on it, i got clear stuff without backing on it from tcp.

Just looked at the frisket paper I have and it says not for use with automotive paints, LOL. I haven't had any problems with candies bleeding through transfer paper but it's too thick for doing intricate work. Is the spraymask vinyl clear?
