abs plastic prep

I have a 90 chevy ss truck that the grille is peeling.I think it would be best just to start with a new grille rather than try to sand all those tight areas? The grille is abs plastic. I was wondering about if I should seal with epoxy? How am I going to get any paint /bc/cc in all those little sg. Whats your thoughts? Thanks

In a perfect world, you would clean with the 700 and spray a wet coat of epoxy and then paint.

yeah if its is actual abs plastic, as far as prep, abs need very little. you dont have to sand abs. you can just prime and paint like barry said. solvent based paint bites right into it.

You might try lightly media blasting it at low pressure and a foot or so distance. That's one way to abrade tight areas, but it will usually leave a profile that needs smoothing with primer.

Thanks guys. I am now finding that the the$120 aftermarket grille is not exactly like the ss grille so looks like I may have to sand the best I can and hope I can get enough paint slick enough to make it look fair.

Old Sarge,

Did you check LMC Truck? I was looking at a SS 454 and the grille was toast so I was interested in a replacement. LMC's looked like it was an excellent match.
