Nice, looks like with the quality of your work you should stay quite busy

Thanks guys.

I do have my hands full, and I'm really glad to have found this forum because you guys talk about stuff that I sit awake wondering about.

I'm glad to be here.

I see products, tools and processes that I'd like to talk to somebody about, but most of the time I have to buy the stuff and try it myself because I can't find anybody that has tried it.

Here on this forum I've found info and opinions on all kinds of products that I've been wondering about.

Seriously, I'm glad I found you guys.

Nice work, dave.yes this forum is great as are the spi products!

Thanks guys. I'm focusing right now on the 66 chev in the bottom picture. It will be a BC/CC with an ice blue metallic, probably chroma. The clear will be SPI uni.

Right now I'm on my second round of spray poly on the main body. Deck lid is blocked through it's second session, going back in for one more surfacing effort later today as I start blocking the second session of poly on the main body.

I actually dusted off an old hutchins AF16 block for the task, based on some input I read here in regard to durablock (Which I have leaned on fairly hard for recent block work, lol)

I'll likely end with some AFS blocks for most of my flat work when I get to 600 grit.

I went DTM with 4:1 evercoat poly products on the chevy and it's rubbing my fur the wrong way, I am not warming up to the idea of not having my epoxy on the basement level of this paint job. I don't think I'll be able to get myself to do it again. Only reason I'm doing it on this one is I know where the car is going, I'll be able to really keep my eye on it over the years.

It's still a scary experiment for me though.

Nice work.

Dave, what would make you sway from the epoxy for the base. Especially to replace it with evercoat.

That black truck looks great. Those are a pretty crude bodystyle but sharpe when done.

I guess I've been on a quest of sorts to limit the chemistry in the film between the bare metal and the color package. I retain left over paint and primer materials from my spray gun liner cups and observe volume retention or shrinkage. It seems like the spray poly products and 1:1 epoxies shrink less than anything I have tried so far. I guess I liked the idea of a poly film to compliment any poly fillers and glaze work I've got on the body. I suppose that's not entirely true if the spray poly is a hybrid though. It just bothers me having so many layers between my metal and my top coat package. I'll have epoxy, poly, 2k urethane and a sealer... and it bugs me. I guess what bugs me the most is some of the 2K's I've tried which seem so loaded with talc and clays, it doesn't seem like a very strong film. So that's what has me searching, I want a strong, low shrink surfacing film for leveling my panels.

I have not tried surfacing with spi epoxy.

I do typically use a spray on surfacing product on all my jobs, which seems to take 2-3 separate application/blocking sessions before I am happy. I can see the SPI epoxy making me pretty happy in my efforts, I just need to try it.

I have a full spray on a 69 mach1 coming up next. I will try using the SPI epoxy for my entire film package from bare metal on up to a reduced epoxy sealer prior to color/clear on the mach1 mustang.
