I finally painted the 62 galaxie xl ive been restoring for the last 7 yrs.i used ppg concept ss.its wimbledon white with a candy red roof.i used spi epoxy primer and got good advice from barry.I have now sanded with 1000 wet followed by 1500.what compounds & pads are rccomended? I was restoring cars years ago1970s aND WE USED 3M SUPER DUTY rubbing compound on lacquer completes but i have been away from the game fore quite awhile.im getting back into it as therapy to deal with my daughters untimely passing.thanks and kudos to Barry he even answered my phone calls!later Mike

Mike, sorry about your daughter and wish you the best.

Maybe someone else will know if this is correct or not but the super duty is not to be used on a clear coat as it will put scratches in the clear, NOW I would think the same would be for the concept and you might want to go to a different compound.

Concept should be nothing more then a clear with pigment and way different then lacquer.

Anyone here got some good advice on if I'm wrong or right?

barry is right on super duty. i love it and use it on the trizac pads for the final da sanding. helps a little i think but for buffing it will do more damage than good. but you are an old fart like me and will have to relearn buffing. took barry a couple of years to get me to up my speed . the presta like speed and works like barry says it will. if you try to buff at 1000 to 1500 you will get nowhere. sand all the way to 3000 then buff.

Wow! Shine can I go to 3000 right after 1500.That's a lot of wet sanding by hand!

not imo . many do. i do 1000,1200,1500,2000,2500 then 3000 trizac. does not tale long. each grit is designed to remove the one below it and work pretty fast . . it is hard to me to sand out 1000 grit scratches with 2000. just more work. but then i am an old contrary fart and do not like the seating arrangement on a buffer.

i'm with shine. except i kinda enjoy the time on the buffer......but that doesn't mean i want to work myself to death trying to remove 1000g scratches with 2000...then start buffing to find out i quite havent gotten them out yet. By the time you reach 2500 then finish off with 3000....they should all be gone with minimal effort. Yea you are sanding the car 6 times, but if you do a side by side comparasion with 1000g to 2000g, it is a no brainer which method i would do. Whats a day or 2 more going to hurt?

it's why it takes 120 hrs min to do the job right. cut corners or skip steps and it will show when done
