71 Satellite rally dash

has anyone ever restored something like this with the faux wood grain ? The paint isn't really bad as much as dull, I washed it with dawn & dried it off but it just doesn't have the pop of a nicely redone part. What can ber done without screwing up the woodgrain painting or if I do how to redo it.

Does it look good when wet? if so you could clear it with a satin clear.

I thought about clearing it but then maybe too shiny, didn't think about satin. I'm not certain how these are supposed to look as OE either considering the only examples I've seen are 40 yrs old as well. I just want it to look decent & not dull, I considered a wipe with the dreaded enemy Armour All but haven't done that yet either. And RT thanks for the vid, I'll check that out.

Maybe the air brush experts would be better at answering the "how to" piece of this.

Does anyone have any examples of a satin clean applied to something & is it just achieved by using a flattening agent in the mix?
