68 Mustang hood scoop fix

Putting this 69 hood scoop on my 68 Mustang. I've never prepped fiberglass before. If I scuff it down, what grit? 80? Can I SPI epoxy right over it then or does it need a gel coat? Also have one stud hole that's loose/stripped, it's a very coarse thread pitch I wouldn't imagine I could find a tap for. Any slick fixes for that? Otherwise I'll prob just epoxy it in once it's ready.

The coarsest i would use is 120 on fiberglass, and once I was getting close to the gel coat I would go with a finer grit (180 / 220 ) You can epoxy right on the gel coat if it's in good condition. 2 part epoxy will certainly work for the stud, but others on the forum will know the best possible product and procedure .

If In a few small spots, the gel coat is gone (there are a few on edges already) will the epoxy hold up?
