I'd like to thank everyone here. I got a lot of information using this forum. Not much of a typer but read as much as I can. Everything came out pretty good considering where it was painted (my shop) and who painted it. (me) This is a great lil forum with great advice. Thanks everybody for sharing their knowledge.

Very nice! always loved the tailamps on that model! It looks like the pics were taken soon after the cut and buff, the clear will have an even better shine after full cure/30 days and a final polish.

Can't say I followed any procedure to the letter. The perfect paint job is close to what I did. I first got rid of all the previous body work. Bare metal in some places. down to orgial paint/primer in others. Sealed the whole thing and started the body work. Cannot tell you how many times it was sanded washed retaped and re-primered. Block sanded 98% of what I put on top of the sealer off. Got it as straight as I was ever gonna get it. Then reduced sealer and let it sit for another week. Sanded again, washed and based. Repaired my mistakes the next day. wet sanded again. Re based that night. Let sit 40 min. The cleared it. let it sit for a day Another round of wet sanding and minor run and orange peel removal which took a week at night. The a cut. Then a wash and a re cut to get every place I missed. Then a quick buff. And the another to get what I missed.

Looking great!

Nice and straight. When you said it was painted in your shop, what kind of shop? home etc? It just sounded like you painted it in less than ideal conditions...It really looks fantastic.

I have a 20x25 shop out back. When I purchased this house it was here. The previous owner was just short of a complete moron. 2 car garage door. And when you open it you see... the back of the house. A motorcycle will fit betweent the fence house and shop bulding. Completely useless for a car. So for the last 5 years I have used it as storage. Well after getting a couple of qoutes on paint and realizing I would/could never spend that much on a perishable item. I fully understand why it costs. Just not what I want to spend savings on. Anyway I figured for $7000 I could give it a shot. Could even do it several times and still come out cheaper. I have more time than money so... I installed a garage door in the side of the shop. (a useable man cave woohoo) bought a compressor. (haven't had one since my ex sold it during the divorce) and got rid of most of the junk I had been saving for no apparent reason. So I hung some visqene to block out the "daft zone" put an exhaust fan in the window. SOme filters in the door to allow fresh air in and went after it. In hindsight after 6-8 months of doing body work I should have put more effort into making more room. I'll let the picture show the horror...... My next project is the convertible top... The WHITE convertible top... Again for what I was qouted I decided to give it a try too. I can do it 5 times before losing money. hahahahaha Same with the seat covers, parchment ha what a joke. Like my hands are EVER clean. One more seat to go. Re-springing the first one had my hands acheing for weeks.

I agree..... WHy they didn't keep tthem on the GTO's is beyond me. Of course I like the gto grills/hood better. There are enough clones out there already so I kept it looking like a lemans. Worst part is the worst part of the car was the tail panel. I had to weld in a piece of metal from fender to fender to fix it. Plenty of new GTO tail panels avaiable but none for a lemans. I'm glad I was able to save it. Did not want a clone. Even put the 326 emblems back on the side.

Awesome, one of my favorites and have always been in love with the Tri-pods!

And a last couple of pics with the top installed... That was an interesting experiance in it's self..

I sure love the '66-7 body styles in all the "A" bodies, but I must say that Pontiac's version was the nicest of all.
