'65 Barracuda

While the '63 & '64 vettes spend some time cooking in the sun awaiting the next stage of primer, the upholstery is still being worked on the Sport Fury, engine compartment being completed on the Mustang (whew), I brought this back into the paint room.

This car came to me complete right down to the AM radio, running and driving. It is an original 273, 4 speed car. It has no other options. Had roughly 85 K showing when I got her. I believe that to be correct mileage. As 'cudas go, these were not the most popular but, she is a pretty cool little car. The Barracuda actually came out before the Mustang but, Ford stole the show...

This is a nut and bolt restoration. The bottom is finished in base/clear. All suspension and running gear are new or restored.

I had completed the base coat before I got ill. It has gotten a few scratches so. I wet sanded her yesterday with 800 grit wet and repaired a few tiny nicks with spot glaze. I will respray the base today. SPI clear on Friday. The color is GM bright blue metallic. Interior upholstery & trim is white with blue carpet to match the exterior.

Ghost stripes applied and 2 coats of SPI clear. I will wet sand Monday or Tuesday and apply 3 more coats of clear. My cell phone camera does not do the color justice, nor could I capture the stripes...

BTW, the rear window is just set in place to keep the mess out. The car interior ( and the underside ) are finished base clear, as well

Thanks, 5wndwcpe

Put the trunk lid, hood and front valance in SPI epoxy yesterday. These will require no high build

It has been about a week since I applied 2 coats of SPI Universal clear. It is rock hard...

Looks great! Panels look straight - any rust issues? Kind of a unique car - always liked the modified look rather than a stock look. Stock tires were just to skinny for the body. Looks like some old Keystone Classic rims on her.. always liked them. I was watching a resto on one of them on the Velocity channel - apparently that rear glass is a rare item.

One small rust through spot on passenger quarter behind the rear wheel I butt welded a patch panel in. No "bondo" anywhere on the car. I do like the old Keystones on the car. These are just rollers. 14". I have some Torque Thrusts I was going to use on her but am leaning toward some 17" Keystones

Torque Thrusts are a favorite of mine too - Good set of rims will make that car. Keep us posted!

Been down and out for a bit. Back at it

SPI clear continues to amaze me. Don't think I'll be using any more 2002...

Wet sanding the hood, doors and trunk tomorrow then reassembling for final clear coats

I have great memories of that car. As a child, my father, bother and myself traveled from Michigan to Florida in a 65 cuda. Ours wasn't as cool as the one you're working with. The back deck was a really cool spot to hang out in on a long trip.

Beautiful work!
