I am deciding between Viper Blue and Lemans Blue as the main color and the metallic grey and the alabaster as a stripe.

Left, right and center Front Grills cleaned up, taped and painted

Sanded primer to 400 on:
- rear half of car

Sanded primer to 600 on:
- T-Tops
- Head lights
- headlight buckets

Day 27
Sanded primer to 600 on:

Hood frame re-aligned to better fit

Day 28
Sanded primer to 600 on hood
Filled hood divots
Sanded filler on hood
Removed leaky trans pan

Day 29
Recoated Primer on all spots that sanded through
Replaced leaky shifter linkage seal on transmission
Hammered the transmission pan lip flat
Reinstalled transmission pan and gasket
Refilled ATF
Re-primed egg crates

Day 30
Drained oil and changed filter
Removed and cleaned valve covers
Installed new gaskets and reinstalled valve covers to hopefully fix oil leak

Sanded egg crates to 220
Sanded everything else to 600

Day 30 1/2 (Saturday)
Pulled down all of the plastic sheeting from epoxy and primer
Swept out the garage
Put up new plastic sheeting
Washed the car, t-tops, wiper doors, rear vents, gas caps

Day 31
Washed - Hood, doors, head light buckets, head light assemblies and accessories
Vette back up on jack stands for painting
Re-taped new paper on everything
Finished taping the plastic sheeting
Hung the doors for painting
Hung everything else for painting

I was thinking it looked like Dexter! I didn't want to say it...LOL
 
I was never that fastidious when I used to paint in my garage, it's fascinating to see what a motivated individual can do. I like it.
 
Day 32
Egg crates sanded to 400
Re-masked the egg crates
Wiped everything down with wax and grease remover in preparation for sealer.


Day 33
Worked at Habitat for Humanity all day
Sprayed epoxy sealer on everything in the evening.

Day 34

I sprayed 3 coats of paint for the white stripe (It's actually called Alabaster)

I masked off the area for the stripe. This part took me just over 6 hours to lay out the stripes.

I then sprayed 3 coats of the Lemans Blue as the base on the rest of the car.

I think it came out OK for someone who has never done this before.

Big thanks to Barry and Chad and Kate for all of the help that they gave me. I really could not have done this as well as I did with out their input and help.
I really really appreciate it.

So if anyone asks what it takes for a novice to paint their car, you can always point them to this thread and let them read it to get an idea of what it takes.
 
Looks great. This has been fun watching and reading. You have done a great job documenting and sharing your project.
