i am ready to shoot some 2k regular primer on my 69 road runner body shell. exterior doors quarters and roof.i epoxied these parts several times and it laid down nice.never used the 2k primer before so i tried some on the bottom side of deck lid laying on table.after reading all the directions from spi i primed the lid .it came out like sand paper.i am using a devilbiss finish line 3 gun. 23 psi going in to gun with trigger wide open and a nice pattern on paper.the gun came with a 13,15 and a 18 tip i was using the 15.since the body shell is much larger should i go with the 18 tip and where should i start to avoid over spray?directions say 2 to 3 wet coats but by the time i get from one end to the other won't i be spraying second coat over dry over spray?looking for some tips on how to do this. had no problems with epoxing the shell but this 2k is a different animal. thank jerry

I use a 1.8 tip and fluid knob 1/2 turn from wide open. 2-3 wet coats means that each coat goes on heavy (wet) but you do need to wait the proper flash time before the next coat or you could have some issues.
1.5 tip is too small IMO and you would need to reduce the primer to get it to spray right but then you are decreasing the build.

You can use the 1.8-it will help, slow your gun speed down so the primer goes on wet, shoot one panel at a time-don't walk the length of the shell, if need be you can add some reducer if it's kicking too fast and dry spraying.
