I thought I would post my resto project on this site, as it has been very informative to me. As you can see I started posting this on another great site 2 years ago and got sidetracked. I want this car done this year, so I am posting online again to push me to finish. I mention further down i will be using another companies product, but I ordered all my epoxy, 2k, cleaner, adhesion promoter from SPI this week, and got it the next day.
I added the pics half way through as the originals were deleted. I am trying to work on the car everyday for at least 1 hour. Enjoy:

Good morning everyone. Just thought I would drop a message here. I was looking for information on refinishing my IROC, and found this site. I cannot stand the quality of professionals and decided to rebuild this car myself. Bought this Canadian Spec car in Atlanta in 2005 for $1400 after it spent its entire life in Miami. Its a Factory B4Z Iroc with factory T5 and was a L69 carb motor. I replaced with a 350 GM crate (still have the numbers matching motor), replaced the clutch, and installed UMI torque arm, Spohn rear suspension, and rebuilt everything under the car. (down to the stainless flex hoses).
I started replacing the interior, but stopped short thinking I better turn attention to the paint. I worked automotive service/parts/management at dealerships for 20 years, but changed industries in 2003 to something more lucrative. I took auto body classes in college in Canada but that was 20 years ago and never really used those skills.
I am looking forward to learning as much as possible and taking care of the paint in the coming months. I have a shop to work in, and a budget of $1500 to start with. Need to get all tools, so this will be interesting!

Of course. I want the car to look mostly stock, with a few improvement mods thrown in that are reversible. I did the engine orange so I could see leaks. (despise GM engines painted Black)
This is going to take awhile!! I've been working on the car for years, but figure on 6 months to finish, and maybe $5000. Work keeps me really busy since I am the Boss.

Thanks, appreciate the comments. I finally got my compressor wired and plumbed yesterday. Had to use CPVC for the lines, couldn't afford copper. Romex wire to the fuse panel was $80 alone. I figure the CPVC is temporary until Copper prices come down, or I find a bunch of used pipe cheap. I installed one outlet and 2 drains to minimize the line length. (I did a nice install of the pipe, but not happy about using it)
Bought a bunch of Kobalt air tools, but mostly for mechanical work. I also purchased a IR311A DA Sander and IR315 straight line sander. ( I suggest Buying a cheaper straight line sander as IR just puts a sticker on the Taiwanese unit and says it's theres)
Once I finish mechanical repairs on my SAAB and my Wifes Toyota I will be back to the Camaro.

Was feeling like crap today, so finished work early. I cleaned up the car, and swept out the shop. Looked at my supplies, need to put in a order this weekend, but I can start removing the side skirts and stuff this weekend. Paint looks really nice but there are flaws in it. I won't need much filler, probably a little slick sand on the drivers door, and some 2K primer on misc parts of the car to cover minute sanding scratches from the last paint job. (We'll see whats under the paint). I am considering chemical stripping the nose and the ground efx (aircraft stripper or brake fluid - search was my friend).

*** i am going to use Custom Shop Epoxy Primer (have it from tcpglobal), but what is a good 2k High build to use with it? The material data sheet @ TCP says use over etch primer. I could just order everything from SPI here in Georgia, and use the Custom shop stuff for practice paint.

Looks like my older pictures are gone. i will try and put them back up, i reorganized my photobucket accout.

Anyway, I received my SPI order yesterday: primer, 2k, adhesion promoter etc. Today I started removing paint from the car. I read about using a heat gun and razor blade to remove paint. Wow, it works. 2 1/4 panels, 2 front fenders and 1 deck lid, 4 hours. Doors will be removed next week. I still need to sand the entire car, but I tried a section, and it will sand off fast.
There seems to be little filler on the car except the RH front fender. It's bondo city. Need to find a replacement locally.
My $50 decklid w/wiper was refinished with epoxy and painted silver, then a tannish brown color. Stripped in 10 minutes, except the epoxy.
Friday is sand the rest of the car day after I remove the t-top rubbers and the rear window wash nozzle.

here we are after yesterdays work. RH fender NFG. I need to clean up the ttop trim cavities to epoxy also. The LH outer spoiler was cracked, so I fiber glassed it and it's nice and strong. I guess a little epoxy , filler, epoxy and it will be ready for paint.

This week: Order door hinge repair kit, and a jack to use my steck door holder kit. Also, find a local windshield shop to cut out the windshield so I can clean up the pillars.

great. Thre orange Camaro is really nice. I have been slack lately. Had a lot of work come up, and my right knee has a medial collateral ligament (MCL) sprain. On a positive note, my wife is going away for a week shortly, and I plan on working on the car all week. YAY
 
Thanks for the compliment on the orange car, but the one I was talking about is the blue one that you can only see the top over the truck. It's very close to yours, except a TPI car. Keep us updated on the progress!
