Here is the latest to hit my garage for an overall plus some metal work... The owner wants a show job, so I will run this thread like I did the Mach 1 several years ago.. I will try to log everything I do, good or bad.. Here are some pics to start.. More to come later:cool:

All the fit on the car is terrible right now.. That will be a task on these cameros as I have been told, but maybe it just needs a sledge hammer to help it along:p

EDIT: I almost forgot.. Its getting a new hood and full quarters.. The quarters are hacked up very bad from a previous job

That looks great don't take it apart.

Too late I see you had to grind out about 1/2" of bondo. Where are all the rust holes????

Just so you know, running over a basketball hoop is not the correct way to make panel adjustments.

OK.... Hurry up! I need to see how you do that one so I can do the one in the garage. LOL

You are a glutton for punishment. I see you let them bring those things over with too many parts on them. I don't want any parts on them that are not being painted. Too much for me to re-assemble! If they assemble them and scratch them, it's going to cost them for the repair. If I scratch while assembling, it costs me.

Now that's some good advice!

Holy smokes, another polyester sweater!
OK to hit the basketball hoop on the way in, may help knock some of that filler off.
Watch that thing on the way out though.

You guys didn't notice that the basketball goal is laying down. He already hit it. That's why there is bare metal showing. The bondo flew off in fear. LOL

BK,

Holy filler batman! I am not sure why so many people do stuff this way. I think that often times it takes longer to make a beautiful putty sculpture than it does to bump the metal and patch it. I guess someoby who does not have the necessary tools, skills and knowlege just starts slinging mud!

PS- I prefer second gens but it is a CAMARO, although I have found some bargains from time to time searching for Camero! Just bustin'

Bk, Cool project you'll be fine don't let a little filler worry you, I have worked on a ton of 69's over the past few years and you can get anything you'll ever need to get this car fixed correctly.I've heard the auto metal direct qtr. are nice for 69's. I'll try to get pic's posted of the one I finished recently for a engineer at GM. take care Joe

Update

Okay.. Interior is gone.. Glass is gone.. RH quarter is gone

Below: Interior removed and that is what is left of 41 yr old insulation that was above the head liner

I cant believe the amount of mud on this splash pan and quarter joint.. This car is a turd!

I cant decide if I should do just one quarter at a time or do them both at same time.. Trunk fit was very bad before this, thought I may need to do both to get trunk correct.. Thoughts??

Thanks Crash I was thinking the same thing..

Well the outer wheel tub is rotten.. Looks like it was that way when the 1st partial quarter was put on and the other bodyman smeared panel adhesive all over the back of it to make it one piece

The panel directly behind it that is under the trunk pan is also rotten.. I think it is called a filler panel .. Man I really did not want to do all of this to this car, but I digress..

Rear window channel is rotten also..

I'm going through the same thing now on a '70 GTO. It didn't look half bad til we stripped it. It's just a mess of scabbed repairs from a prior shop. It was a vinyl top car that rotted around the back window, they scabbed little pieces of metal all around the opening and filled it with bondo. What a mess!

Man....that don't look so bad to me. You couldn't see thru it before you cut it off. Not so bad having all of that Bondo. That stuff don't rust! LOL

See..... if you had the owner remove the interior stuff, they would have to find someplace to store it instead of you.

Aaron

WOW is that a lot of mud but im sure you'll get it back to normal, looks like a cool project

Definitely do both quarters at same time, you should bed able to get a much better fit that way.
