1961 Austin Healey 3000 Restoration

Christopher,

Did the advertisement include "immaculate" and "rust-free"? Because that seems to really mean "God only knows" and "enough Bondo to hide the Alps."

Here is a trick to get those frozen races out, it works most of the time anyway.

I have found a stick welder to work better than mig for this - run a nice heavy hot bead all the way around in the center of the race.

Let cool.
Usually it will shrink up enough to easily come out.

Interesting! I'll try that if and when there is a next time. Good stuff! thanks!

The carcass. I'll drop it off later this week to be sand blasted.

The new passenger door hinge support welded in place.

I finally got the superstructure back from the body shop. She's back in black! Single stage SPI Black. Overall it looks good, but I am not happy with some areas and will need to address them...drips, grinding marks, etc. Once that is taken care of i will start cleaning up the suspension parts and making the car into a roller.

20 hours into reassembly

Heat shields cleaned, washers and bolts blasted and painted, and all installed.

Heater Blower motor cleaned of old overspray and installed.

Pedal box reconditioned

Seam Sealer applied

Front Shocks reconditioned

Heater box disassembled, blasted, and freshly painted.

Heater and fresh air vent hoses installed

Progress over the last month. I've been working on the car on and off as time allows. I haven't done a very good job of taking pictures lately, which is a mistake...forgot to take pictures of differential rebuild, rear suspension installation, etc.

Front Suspension Before

Front suspension installation after reconditioning of components. New springs were purchased since the old ones were worn out and pitted. New rear leaf springs were also installed.

She's a roller again! The painted spoke wheels will be changed out for new chrome units eventually.
