1956 f100

here are some photos of a 1956 f100 that me and my father in law are working on. I have done "body work " before and worked in a body shop before .Also worked as a painter on the B-2 ...painted cars after work for extra money. I have seen some horrible repairs and some really unique ways of getten er done. I was dupont certified and pretty familliar with thier chroma premier line. As alot of you know ,products keep changing and doing garage jobs are very difficult. I painted a race car for a friend of mine that was sand blasted so bad that the body lines were gone! after that i swore i would'nt paint another car!
Well here we go again. this time i wanted to do it the right way (or the best that i can) I chose SPI because of thier reputation online ,I emailed tech line and had a response as soon as i set my phone down. Called and spoke with Barry and het answered all of my questions and set me up with a rep and I had my product the next day!

I am tired of spending so much time and effort ,then using a mystery product that a salesmen has told me I should use and then it doesnt work!

This is why I chose SPI, there is no mystery , our efforts will not be wasted

some bofore and after

after many brutal and trying hours of work we were able to fix some pretty rough work. I ordered just about every video available tm technologies and david gardiner's video and ron covell. These videos really made alot of things i only heard of possible! It is still going to get some filler but not 2"! like it had in some places. Somebody actually sculpted a truck ...wholly crap IMG_20110905_104847.jpg

all the rust was hiding on the back of the fenders and in the lower cowl on the drivers side

here are some of the lower cowl

the lower cowl was pretty bad actually ended up replacing the entire lower behind it and replaced the lower fender mount ( screws were just there for fit )2012-04-02_20-33-18_635.jpg

parts on and ready for filler

parts on and ready for some filler and true all of the gaps. the hood support had to be cut because the old hinge springs were bad, I bet we have had the fenders and hood on 20 times before it fit . The hood flip kit was a chalange to get it right or as good as we could.2012-04-29_09-08-12_465.jpg

Now that you have sprayed some Band Wagon primer, tell us what your thoughts are.

I am very happy with the epoxy primer it sprayed very well unthinned out of an old geo fx97 with a 1.5 set up im guessing if it was reduced 3-5% it would lay down like glass my rep john young was awesome they missed my reducer on my order and he drove back 45 minutes from me in palmdale ca and got it to me at 10:30 that night so i could spray the next day little did i know i didn't even need it ...great product and great service

The best thing about the SPI products aside from the performance, is this forum right here. The tech support you get is from multiple guys who actually spray the products you are asking about. No guessing.

You said previously you were using a 1.5 gun..what are your thoughts/experiences with that gun and what kind was it? I just ordered the Grizzly 1.5 LVLP gun.

You're doing some very nice looking work there. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks rustbuster i am using a walcom geo fx97 with a 1.5 for everything except for 2k primer. Having a 1.4 for clear i think could help..but i can make it do what i want.

+1 :)

before and after pics of some stuff

Somebody beat the fender with a waffle faced framing hammer! I had to shrink and hammer/ dolly the crap out of it. Not that it wont have filler still but it had over two inches bondo on it! Many hours spent with my head in the fender well. I can no longer hear , but the fender is good!hammered.jpg
